Personalised and holistic care
The Urology Service at the IMQ Zorrotzaurre Clinic is there for our patients at all stages of life; it combines scientific rigour with friendly and respectful treatment to guarantee each patient’s wellbeing and peace-of-mind. It comes as no surprise that we have been striving since 2003 to focus on the needs for change in the care for our urological patients.
Technology combined with expertise
Our team of urologists are committed to state-of-the-art technology to transform the experience and outcomes of our patients. We have robotic surgery, lithotripsy, AquaBeam, micro-ultrasound biopsy and MRI fusion imaging. Tools that allow us to offer more precise diagnosis and fully personalised treatments.
Robotic surgery is a technology that provides pinpoint accuracy in each intervention, minimising the damage to healthy tissues, reducing postoperative pain, bleeding and the risk of complications. Consequently, the procedures are more accurate, meaning much quicker recovery and improving both the functionality and quality of life of each patient.
Combining the latest technological solutions with the expertise of our team greatly increases the safety and successful outcomes in each step of the care process.
Specialists in all areas of urology
Our urologists have specific training in urological oncology, stones, andrology, pelvic floor, functional urology and other sub-specialities. Each case is treated by experts with in-depth knowledge of the condition and its therapeutic alternatives.
Supportive and approachable
The patient is at the heart of the process, from the first appointment to the subsequent follow-up, addressing questions and providing information that is always clear, accessible and understandable.
Research and ongoing training
We take part in clinical research projects and ensure we stay up-to-date, so that we can apply the latest advancements of the sector and guarantee care quality and excellence. Our specialists are leading experts in oncology, stones and pelvic floor; the service has become a referral centre to train new urologists who visit us each year from different parts of the world.
Cutting-edge technology to treat urological conditions
Our Urology Service is committed to innovation and excellence, by incorporating state-of-the-art technologies, such as robotic surgery, lithotripsy, AquaBeam, micro-ultrasound biopsy and MRI fusion imaging, focal therapy to treat low and medium risk prostate cancer, and high-precision 3D imaging systems for keyhole and robotic surgery.
These tools enable more accurate diagnosis and procedures that are personalised, less invasive and which reduce the risk of complications.
The outcome: safer surgeries, greater surgical precision and much faster recovery, transforming the experience and wellbeing of our patients.
Our urology services and treatments
We offer specialist care in urological conditions and are committed to using highly effective techniques with minimum impact on the patient. Our goal is to meet each need by using less invasive and advanced procedures, which reduce pain, speed up recovery and improve quality of life. Thanks to the latest advances, we treat a large range of urological problems with personalised, safe solutions and with excellent functional outcomes.
Prostate cancer
Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men, particularly among over 50s. It is usually symptom free in its first stages; early diagnosis by means of PSA; rectal examination and advanced imaging techniques is therefore fundamental.
We offer active monitoring for low-risk cases, along with robotic surgery, radiotherapy and target therapies personalised for each patient. We closely monitor patient post-treatment to guarantee the management of the condition and the quality of life. Trailblazers in Spain with 20 years’ experience in robotic surgery.
Kidney stones
Kidney stones, formed by deposits of mineral stones, can cause severe back pain, infections and blood in urine.
We use ultrasound and CAT scans, and urine analysis to identify the type and size of the stone and to decide the best treatment option: medication, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy or minimally invasive surgery.
We also personalise prevention to reduce the risk of recurrence. We are a referral centre in the treatment of urinary stones with a full range of technology at our disposal.
Male lower urinary tract symptoms
Prostate growth can be associated with problems to pass urine, usually a weak flow or the feeling of incomplete emptying of the bladder, which is very frequent among men over 50 years old.
We assess each case with a complete medical history, symptom questionnaires, analytic and imaging tests; the consultation focus is on swift resolution, with a range of treatment from medication, minimally invasive treatments using iTind or Rezum, to unblocking surgery with different lasers or the Aquabeam robot to treat urinary blockages, robotic and keyhole surgery for complex or standard cases; the emphasis is always to ensure the maximum satisfaction of each patient and at each stage of life, by improving symptoms and with the least possible impact.
Andrology and sexual medicine
We treat problems such as erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, Peyronie’s disease and male infertility with precise diagnosis and surgical, psychosexual and medical treatments adapted to each case.
We work with assisted reproduction, psychology and endocrinology specialist, to ensure a personalised and holistic approach. We also have extensive experience in penile implants.
Urinary incontinence and pelvic floor
We treat mixed, urge and stress urinary incontinence – in men and women –, along with pelvic prolapse. We apply diagnostic techniques including perineal ultrasound scans and urodynamic testing, personalised therapies that include bladder retraining and neuromodulation; rehabilitation and physiotherapy are always the basis for any treatment.
When necessary, we perform reconstructive surgery (TOT colposuspension, sacrocolpopexy, artificial urinary sphincter) as required by each case. Our goal: improving the quality of life with effective and minimally invasive treatments.

Testing and diagnostics
We conduct a wide range of diagnostic tests using advanced technology, in order to accurately pinpoint the source of the urological symptoms and plan the most appropriate treatment.
Thanks to these modern tools, we can obtain a detailed assessment of the state of the urinary tract, the prostate and renal function, or the health of the pelvic floor, among other key aspects for patient wellbeing.
Urology ultrasound scans (kidney, bladder, prostate)
A quick and painless test that allows us to see the state of the kidneys, bladder or prostate in real time.
Flowmetry
It measures the speed and volume of the urinary flow to assess possible urinary tract obstructions.
Urodynamics
It studies the functioning of the bladder and urethra, which is useful in cases of incontinence, urinary urge or difficult to urinate.
Prostate biopsy with high-resolution micro-ultrasounds (EXActVu)
It allows the prostate tissue to be viewed with greater resolution than a normal ultrasound; this enables malignant to be differentiated from normal tissue and sample of prostate tissue to be obtained to be tested when cancer is suspected.
Fusion prostate biopsy
Advanced technology that combines multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging with ultrasounds for more precise locating of the suspicious lesions, which increases efficiency and reduces unnecessary biopsies.
CAT / MRI / PET
In conjunction with the Diagnostic Imaging Service, we offer access to advanced testing for precise studies of the most complex urological conditions.
Specific laboratory screening
Tests such as the PSA, urine analysis or cultures provide key data to complete the diagnostic study.
Cystoscopy
Visual examination of the inside of the bladder using a tiny scope, used to assess bleeding, recurrent infections and bladder tumours.
FAQs
Urology is the medical speciality that diagnoses and treats urinary tract conditions in men and women, as well as the male reproductive system. It includes disorders such as urinary tract infections, kidney stones, prostate problems and erectile dysfunction.
You should see the urologist when your symptoms include pain when urinating, blood in your urine, urinary incontinence, testicular pain, difficulty to urinate or problems related to sexual function. Men’s health check-ups are also recommended from 45-50 years old for men, particularly for prostate checks.
Yes. Even though urology is usually connected with men, it also looks after women’s urinary health, in the case of conditions such as recurring infections, stones and incontinence.
Urologists treat for example:
- Urinary tract infections
- Kidney stones
- Benign prostate hyperplasia
- Prostate, kidney, bladder or testicular cancer
- Urinary incontinence
- Erectile dysfunction and male fertility problems
At the first appointment, the urologist conducts a detailed medical interview, checks the medical history and performs a urological ultrasound scan, a urine flow test or may even examine the urethra and bladder using a camera (urethrocystoscopy); the urologist will also request additional tests such as a urine and blood analysis to reach an accurate diagnosis.
The most common ones include urology ultrasound scans, which involves checking the kidneys, bladder, prostate and testicles in the case of men and the pelvic floor of women, urine analysis, urine flow test, and cystoscope (not performed at the appointment or by the urologist); radiology tests such as x-rays, MRIs, scans, CAT scans, and even nuclear medicine tests (PET-CAT or scintigraphy). The test chosen depends on the symptoms or the condition to be studied.
They should have at least a urological check up at any time of their life. The prostate and men’s health check-up should start from 50 years old, or from 45 if there is a family history of prostate cancer; women should have a check-up at any time of their life if they suffer repeated infections, incontinence or other problems related to urology. These check-ups mean problems can be found at any early stage.
